Adam Bede By George Eliot

Adam Bedi is a 26-year-old worker from Hayslope, Loamshire. He is the foreman of a carpentry workshop where his brother Seth also works. The novel begins in the studio with an argument between the men over religion. We learn that Dina Morris, a Methodist minister whom Seth loves, will be speaking in the village that evening.

Seth goes to a prayer meeting and then proposes to Dinah, who rejects him. Meanwhile, Adam came home and learned from his mother, Lisbeth, that his father Theias had gone out to drink rather than finish the ark he had subscribed to. Adam works all night to finish the coffin, and he and Seth drop it in the morning. On the way back, they find their father's body submerged in a stream.

Joshua Rann, clerk of the pavilion, tells Mr. Irwin, the local Anglican minister, that Methodist Hislop is causing controversy. Sir Irwin and Arthur Donethorn, descendants and heirs of the local landowner, visit Dina at Hall Farm, a place inhabited by Boers, Dina's uncle and aunt. Mr. Erwin talks to Dinah and is impressed by his religious devotion. Meanwhile, Arthur is courting another child's niece, Hetty Sorel, and she is flattered by his attention.

Sir Erwin informed Dina of Theas Bede's death, and she went to Bedis' cottage and told Lisbeth about it. Meanwhile, Arthur learns that Hetty will be at Chase's mansion in a few days and sets out to find her in an orchard in the garden. Having spoken to her, he is ashamed of his attraction to a simple peasant girl, but he cannot break the spell, and later that day, he meets her again in the same orchard and kisses her. Ashamed of his behavior again, he decides to tell Mr. Irwin of his problems in the hope that the confession will cure his passion. But when he spoke to the pastor at Brookston Rectory the next morning, he lost his temper and said nothing about Hetty. Meanwhile, Dina encourages Hetty to visit her if she needs help, but Hetty, the reckless little girl who thinks she'll never have problems, turns down the offer. Dinah visits her home in Snowfield, Stoneshire the next day.

Theias was buried in Pede and Adam thought he could now hope to marry. He is in love with Hetty. He went to Hall Farm and found that Hetty seemed more friendly than before; He does not realize that his thoughts are only going with Arthur and that his hopes are growing. When Bartel Macy, the local school principal, visited that evening, he learned that Chase's guard had suffered a stroke and was offered a job. Adam's marriage prospects are already bright, both physically and emotionally.

Arthur's 21st birthday is approaching and all the tenants of the property will gather together for a big party. There's a toast for dinner and everyone is wishing famous Arthur luck. Adam was offered a guard position, and he accepted. In the afternoon there are games in which the townspeople compete, and in the evening there is a dance. At the party, Adam discovers that Hetty is wearing a locket that resembles a love symbol, but rejects the idea that she is interested in another man. The locket is, of course, a gift from Arthur; He and Hetty have a secret relationship.

About three weeks later, Adam was walking the grove on Chase's property when he found Arthur and Hetty in an embrace. Enraged, he starts a fight with Arthur and expels him. When Arthur is revived, Adam forces him to text Hetty to end the relationship. After a long search, Arthur composes the note and gives it to Adam. Then his regiment left for the south of England. Adam handed over the coupon and tried to soften the blow to Hetty as best he could. Before reading the letter, Hetty refuses to believe that Arthur wants to end the relationship; She is convinced that Arthur will marry her. After reading it, she was in despair. She wants to leave the house and work as a maid, but Bowers won't let her. Eventually, she started to think that marrying Adam wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Meanwhile, Dina writes a sweet letter to Seth of Snowfield and betrays Lady Boiser Squire Donethorn, Arthur's grandfather, who is bent on striking a strong deal on the Boiser farm.

When Adam realizes that Hetty's friendly attitude toward him has not changed, he comes to the conclusion that there is nothing bad between Arthur and her. He proposes to her, she accepts, and the wedding date is set the following spring. Adam is very happy and will spend the next three months getting ready. On the other hand, Hetty suffers from depression and contemplates suicide. She is pregnant with Arthur. I decided to run away and see Arthur. She announced to the Poysers that she would visit Dinah in Snowfield for a week or two and set off.

After a seven-day journey, Hetty arrives in Windsor sick, exhausted, and penniless. Here she befriends a hotelier and his wife, who tell her that Arthur's regiment has left for Ireland. Hetty lost despair, but the next day her courage recovered, she received money from the owner of the hotel for the jewels Arthur had given her, and returned north to go to Dinah in Snowfield. After five days of traveling, her mood fell apart, and she left her carriage and wandered into the open fields. She spends part of the night at the edge of the pond but finds no courage to commit suicide and continues her journey on foot towards Stoneshire.

When Hetty doesn't get back in time, Adam decides to go to Snowfield and bring her back. He discovers, of course, that she was never there and tries to find her, but to no avail. Realizing that she may have gone to Arthur's house, he decides to go to Ireland. He stops at the parsonage to tell Sir Irwin of his plans and is shocked to learn that Hetty is in Stoneton for the murder of her child. He and Mr. Erwin are going to Stoniton; Mr. Irwin returns the next day to report the bad news to the Bowersers family, while Adam rents and stays in a room. Arthur's grandfather has now passed away and Arthur has returned home from Ireland.

As the trial began, Adam was sitting desperately in his room. Mr. Erwin and Bartel informed Massey (who came to Adam) about the course of the operation; Hetty's guilt seems certain, although Adam refuses to believe it. Finally he went to the courtroom by himself. Two witnesses testify against Hetty, the jury repeats the guilty verdict and the judge issues the death sentence. Meanwhile, Arthur had returned home, and, finding a note from Sir Irwin explaining the situation, he drove to Stoniton.

In the evening after the trial, Dinah arrived and entered prison. She left and just returned to the area. Hetty is forced to confess guilt, which the girl previously refused, urging her to pray. Then Dinah will ask Adam to visit Hetty before she dies. He comes the next morning, the day of the execution, and grants Hetty the forgiveness she asks for. Then Hetty is transported to the place of execution. But at the last moment Arthur comes with a respite. Hetty's sentence has been converted to "transport" (exile). The next day, Adam and Arthur meet by chance in the grove where they fought. Arthur repents and plans to go to war. He asks for forgiveness from Adam and Adam, after a short struggle with his pride, agrees to shake hands with him.

Eighteen months later, Adam went to Hall Farm to ask Dinah, who had returned to visit his loved ones, to console his ailing mother. Dinah returns with him to the chalet and spends the night helping Lisbeth. She blushed when Adam spoke to her. After leaving, Lisbeth tells Adam that Dinah loves him; Adam is surprised, but when he thinks about it, he realizes that he loves her too. That afternoon he went to the courtroom and made a presentation. Dinah wants to say yes, but her sense of duty prevents her. She says she will go back to her work among the poor and think about it. Adam accepts reluctantly and Dinah leaves. It's harvest time on the farm and the harvest is done with great joy.

About a month later, Adam became impatient with Dinah's decision and set off for Snowfield. He meets her on a hill and she accepts his offer. And after another month, they married happily.

A few years later, Dinah and Seth are at home with my two children, Dinah. Adam is back home. He went to Arthur, who was gone all the time and came back dressed. We learn Hetty is dead, and then the novel ends with local satisfaction.
